Writing: Passion or Need?
I started writing professionally a couple of years ago. By professionally I mean for money. If you call me a jack of all trades, you won’t be wrong. I have tried several things in my life. From studying computers and aspiring to be a software engineer to studying home-economics and psychology, my fields of study have remained diverse. It was just what I wanted to do at that particular time in my life.
Besides studies, I have tried several activities/hobbies. In 2010 I started my online business of handmade hair bows and head bands. I ran it successfully till 2018. I stitched, did crochet, and knitted. I thought this was my thing until my sister pushed me into the field of writing. Before that I never thought about taking up the profession of a writer. I always thought writing was a hobby. I used to help my kids with their school assignments and wrote a couple of poems with my son.
So, my sister was working for an international company and they were looking for a content writer. She asked me to give it a try. After doing a little research I applied and was hired. I worked for two years writing for the company. I wrote blogs, product descriptions, landing pages, email shots, content for brochures and flyers and what not. I did not realize at that time that it was just the beginning of my freelancing career. I started in 2018 and by the mid of 2019 I was already giving up. Can you believe that?
One day, I was just browsing the internet when I stumbled upon Freelancer.com . It looked legit and I made an account instantly. Little did I know, I would be writing blogs, articles, emails for international clients and that too on the rates I wanted. I am in the 3rd year of my writing career and I am loving the journey. I have learnt so many new things, met some amazing employers and written about things I never thought I’d be able to write.
Writing: Passion or Need?
I would say both
