Financial independence is one of the traits that we, the millennial parents, want to see in our children. It is the need of the day. Earning money isn’t easy, and we need our kids to understand that. The only way to teach the importance of hard work and valuing hard-earned money is to get them involved in money making activities.

Here are 10 fun ways for kids and teens to make money and enjoy the financial independence that comes with it.

Money Making Activities for Kids

Lemonade Stand:

Who doesn’t like lemonade in the scorching summer heat? Set up a lemonade stand in a park nearby or outside your house and make kids sell the lemonade. It is a fun activity for kids to learn the concept of expenditure, earning, and profit/loss.

Re-sell Personal Items

Whether its toys, jewelry, books, or barely worn clothes, kids can re-sell them to make some cash and learn entrepreneurial skills. The kids will need adult supervision to set up a garage sale or sell the stuff on online marketplaces.

Pet Grooming

“I don’t like pets” said no kid ever, and what’s better than making money while having fun with your favorite furry friends? If you have people in your neighborhood who have pets but cannot bathe or groom their pets due to their busy schedules, you can make your kids do the job for them.

Pet Walking

Although this activity is for older kids but if you have time, you can accompany your younger kids and have fun walking dogs/cats to nearby parks. The kids will not only earn money but have fun as well.

Money Making Activities for Teens

Baby Sitting/Mom’s Helper

Kids need to learn to be responsible from a very young age. Babysitting is an activity for older kids who are responsible enough to take care of another human being. Parents are mostly working from home due to pandemic and they need an extra hand looking after the children while they are working from home. Parents would really appreciate a teen helper during these hard times.

Run Errands

Whether it is grocery shopping or a trip to fast food restaurant for untimely hunger spell, none is too big for a teen, especially if they want to make some pocket money. It is a great way to teach the responsibility of handling job and money.

Lawn Mowing

We all have neighbors who need a hand with their lawns. Trimming hedges, pulling weeds, and mowing the lawn for neighbors is a fun activity and a great way to earn money.

Car Washing

Car washing is a super fun summer activity and can help your teen earn some extra bucks. They can wash a couple of cars for free to gain experience. Car washing is a stress-relieving activity and is good for your child’s mental and physical health.

Officiating Sports

If your child is a sports enthusiast, this job is for him. He will need a little training, and then he can officiate any of his favorite sport and earn money along the way.

Online Surveys

Most teens today possess a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Websites like Survey Junkie and Swagbucks pay (either by PayPal or in the form of gift cards) you for filling out surveys, and your teen can make some good money (under adult supervision, of course).

Children not only need to learn how to make money but to save it as well. Through these money-making activities, your kids will learn some important life skills as well.
